J24 Event Calendar for 2019

The J24 Class in Ireland currently has 32 active boats representing 14 clubs. The Class Association intends to encourage more of the 60 J24s in Ireland to participate in one design events by:-

  • Organising training and support for J24 owners and sailors
  • Keeping costs of participating events to a minimum
  • Focusing on fun and fair sailing at all levels with the fleet
  • Promoting events in attractive venues were local fleets exist

We are pleased to announce the following J24 events for 2019. Regional Championships will take place in Lough Ree Yacht Club, Tralee Bay Sailing Club and Howth Yacht Club. The highlight of the season will be the National Championships in Lough Erne Yacht. With recent turnouts of around 15 boats for regional events and mid twenties for the National Championship, 2019 promises to be another exciting year for J24 sailors.

Lough Ree Yacht Club has been a stronghold for the J24 Class in Ireland for many years with up to 8 locally based boats participated at J24 events at the club. The Class Association is looking forward to catching up with old friends when we return to LRYC in 2019. We are also planning a training weekend in Lough Ree before the Western Championship in order to help everybody get off to the best possible start to the season.

Tralee Bay Sailing Club    25th & 26th May

J24 Ireland is delighted to be visiting Tralee Bay Sailing Club for the first time in 2019. Local J24 owners Fergus Kelliher, Gary Fort and Tadgh O’Loinsigh are keen competitors in one design and cruiser events around Ireland. Whilst other club’s are celebrating bicentenaries and tricentenaries it is worth noting that St. Brendan first set sail from this scenic harbour approximately 1500 years ago.

The club’s dry sailing facilities, marina and experienced race management team have hosted J24 Regional, National, European and World Championships. In recent years the HYC Under 25 Keelboat programme has supported many young sailors and produced National Champions and European Championship Bronze Medallists.

Lough Erne Yacht Club is home to the largest fleet of J24s in Ireland. Strong growth in the neighbouring fleets in Sligo & Mullaghmore means there are now over 20 active J24s in the Northwest.  The 2019 National Championships promises to be one of the best Irish J24 events in years with first class racing conditions on the “Broad Lough” and excellent hospitality on shore. Visiting sailors can look forward to on site camping facilities or a range of self-catering, b&b or hotel accommodation close by.
